U.S. Senator Tom Harkin’s official reason to visit Cowles Montessori School was to get a first-hand look at how the Farm-to-School grant was being used. On December 6, David Williams, Lyndsay Whitehead, Arwen Cantonwine, and Lucas Good represented Cowles in the Gifted and Talented Quiz Bowl. In November, students across the district competed at their local schools and the top eight scores went head-to-head in the district competition. After four rounds of competition, these students placed second in the district.

Congrats to Cowles students on strong showings at the State Mock Trial Tournament, sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Association. The Cowles/Merrill Team Purple brought home the 12th place trophy plus Louise Bequeaith earned the Outstanding Witness Award and Cloe O’Connor was presented with the Outstanding Attorney Award.
Congratulations to our own Heather Anderson for earning the Excellence in Education award, which recognizes educators who have made a difference in the lives of Iowa’s students. Two teams comprised of Cowles Montessori School and Merrill Middle School students are heading to the Iowa Middle School Mock Trial Tournament. Congratulations to the students as well as their teachers and parent who volunteered to coach. The State tournament is November 18-20 and sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Association.
