Cowles Teacher Earns ISEA’s Excellence in Education Award

The honors for DMPS teachers continue to pour in this school year.

Heather Anderson, a teacher at Cowles Montessori School, is the recipient of this years Excellence in Education Award, presented by the Iowa State Education Association. Last year, she was a finalist to be Iowa Teacher of the Year.

The award is sponsored by the ISEA, which represents over 34,000 professional educators throughout the state. Now in its 14th year, the Excellence in Education award recognizes educators who have made a difference in the lives of Iowa’s students.

“This award is truly about recognizing the educators who work hard on a daily basis and rarely get the recognition they so richly deserve,” said Tammy Wawro, president of the ISEA. The nominations we receive are a testament to the dedication and compassion Iowa educators have for their students and the communities in which they live. Clearly Iowa educators go above and beyond to help shape and, in many cases, to help change the lives of the students they teach.”

Among the many honors earned this year by DMPS teachers include two finalists for Iowa Teacher of the Year, two finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the top teachers in journalism and physical education, and both the elementary and middle school Art Educators of the Year.
