Upper Level Classroom News

Cowles Upper Elementary students had a wonderful day at JA Biztown on January.  In the classroom students learned about economy and the exchange of money for goods, citizenship and voting rights and how towns work.  The students elected Gary McCall as the Mayor and Maddie Moody as the District Attorney for the day.  They put their math skills to the test learning how to write checks and calculate taxes deducted from their paychecks.   As they worked in cooperative groups with students from different classrooms, they wrote ads and letters for the magazine.

While at JA Biztown, we had wonderful parent support as the students enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the day by making products to sell, getting loans for their businesses from the bank, making investments, depositing their paychecks and spending money.  Overall, the students had a wonderful time and would love to do it again.
