Music News @ Cowles

We have had a great start to the school year in music class.  We have been focusing on reading rhythms in the Upper Elementary and Lower Elementary.  The Kindergarteners have been focusing on steady beat and fast verses slow tempos.  We just ended the first quarter of Middle School Related Arts classes.  Music in Films did research about a film composer then wrote a paper about that composer.  They presented their findings to the class.  Elements of Music finished the quarter by composing two short pieces of music, one was four measures and their final composition was eight measures.

Music program dates will be announced within the coming weeks, look for an email regarding those dates.

Our first annual fine arts day last year was a huge hit with students and performers alike. We are now accepting proposals for fine arts day 2016. If you participated last year, we would love to have you submit a proposal again. Also be thinking about other artists and performers in the community that you would like to bring in for our students. This is a great opportunity to expose our students to some of the very talented people in the Des Moines area.

Band Families:  The Winter Holiday Band Concert will be Friday, December 18, at 7:00 pm, in the Windsor Heights Community Center at Colby Park.  Both the 5th grade band and the middle school band will play.  All students should arrive at 6:30 and bring their folding music stands.  There will also be some social time after the concert ends.  Bring your favorite holiday cookie or treat to share with the other band families.
