Youth Concepts, United Way of Central Iowa, and the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines.
• This program receives funding from the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service through a Governor and Mayor Initiative grant awarded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
• The primary goal of this program is to decrease dropout rates in the district by working with students to improve their academic performance and increase their engagement to school.
• AmeriCorps members will be assigned to one of 49 schools in the district to serve elementary students through tutoring, middle school students through mentoring, or K-12 students at International Baccalaureate schools through service learning.
• Each component of the program is greatly enhanced by the support of local businesses, organizations, and the involvement of community volunteers.
