Students host a craft and art market to raise money for trip to Kofu, Japan
April 24, 2014 – This year, four students from Cowles Montessori have been selected to join the Des Moines Public Schools/Kofu, Japan Student Exchange. (https://cowles.dmschools.org/resources/des-moineskofu-japan-student-exchange/) This years’ trip is scheduled for June 5-16th and each student’s family is responsible for the expenses. The Cowles Montessori family is a large and diverse group with a wide range of talents. The students thought a market to showcase the talents of our Cowles community would be a great way to raise money for their trip. Just in time for Mother’s Day, we have invited artists, crafters and vendors to be a part of the first Cowles Craft & Art Market.
In addition to the fee collected from each vendor, the four students and their families will be selling snacks and beverages. All money earned from the fees and food sales, will be split among the four families. The students will also have a Kofu, Japan informational display and will be on hand to talk about their preparation for the trip.
The Cowles Craft & Art Market has over twenty-five different exhibitors, featuring handmade and one of a kind pieces. Items for sale include; hand painted watercolor art, mixed media art, origami, felted accessories, jewelry, up-cycled décor, herb pots, and tote bags and much more; there is sure to be something unique for everyone.
