Cowles Middle School Classroom News
Students are immersed in their Introduction to Computer Science or Design and Modeling class. Introduction to Computer Science class has completed a 20 hour coding course on Code.org and are now working through the tutorials on MIT App Inventor 2. Design and Modeling class has completed their first project of a STEM power point on an invention and are working through the design process creating a locker organizer project.
We have started giving back to our community at Cowles. Students do community service around our building. Currently, we have Art Tables, Café Clean and Garbage Getters up and running. Several of our students help in the primary classrooms throughout the day. As more community service opportunities develop, more students will help to give back to the school.
In random groups students have been designing a garden shed for the playground area. Our design will incorporate ideas from student design ideas. This shed will be student built and have work benches for students of all ages to use. They are also working on plans to utilize the greenhouse, grow carts, and middle school square foot garden during the late fall/winter months.
We are working with the students to develop a learning community that will enhance and encourage the students to become strong and independent people with confidence and self-esteem. This is accomplished by the work of the mind, hands, and being an important part of our middle school community.
